The Navigators are a coalition of parent-led organizations dedicated to enhancing the educational experience at Adum K-8 School for International Studies. Navigators empower parents to actively participate in their children's education, foster a strong sense of community, promote transparency and communication, and advocate for programs through collaboration among groups that care about the success of the students.

The Navigators are comprised of the PTSA, the Foundation, the Moms Club, and the Dads Club. Collectively, they send a regular newsletter to those who sign up via Membership Toolkit.

In the spirit of living and modeling the IB principles, the Navigators share a common goal to support the school community, therefore, they lead with:

Open Communication: Encourage regular meetings or discussions where representatives from each organization can come together to share their plans, schedules, and priorities.

Respect Individual Missions: Acknowledge that while collaboration is important, it's equally crucial to respect the individual missions and priorities of each group.

Identify Areas of Alignment: Look for areas where the missions of the different groups intersect or overlap.

Flexibility and Compromise: Encourage flexibility and a willingness to compromise when necessary.

Maximize Impact: The groups can maximize attendance, minimize competition for resources and volunteers, and ensure that their efforts have the greatest possible impact on the community.

Evaluate and Adjust: Be willing to adjust strategies and approaches as needed to better meet the needs of all involved parties.

Difference between the PTSA and the Foundation

While both the PTSA and a school foundation aim to support Adum K-8, the PTSA focuses more on parent involvement, programming, advocacy, and supporting educational activities, while the Adum Foundation primarily focuses on fundraising and providing financial support as determined by the school principal.

The two organizations may overlap, and they collaborate on certain projects or initiatives to benefit the school community.

PTSA defined:

  • The Adum K-8 School PTSA is a volunteer organization comprised of parents, teachers, and students who work together to support the school community. Its primary focus is on fostering parent involvement, advocating for children's welfare, and supporting educational programs and activities.
  • The PTSA typically organizes events such as fundraisers, family nights, and programs. Planned activities for 2024-2025 include spirit wear, after-school clubs, the uniform closet, etc.
  • The PTSA's funds often go toward classroom supplies, extracurricular activities, teacher support, and other school-related needs.

Foundation defined:

  • The Adum Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises funds and provides financial support to the Kenneth E. Adum K-8 School for International Studies.
  • Its primary focus is fundraising and philanthropy, which support specific initiatives or programs that may not be covered by the school's regular budget.
  • The Adum Foundation raises funds through donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events. Planned fundraisers for the 2024-2025 school year include Corporate Partnerships, the Founding Families Brick Garden, the Flight 834 Student Campaign, and the Gala/Auction.
  • The funds raised by a school foundation may be used to support a wide range of needs, including technology upgrades, facility improvements, scholarships, teacher professional development, and other staff needs.
